Lloyd Loom Monroe Chair
Each year, over 44,000 people are newly diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK. With this in mind, Fired Earth has launched a Special Edition pink chair to help raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Care.
The Monroe chair - named after Marilyn Monroe, who was photographed seated on just such a chair whilst on a promotional tour of Britain with Vivien Leigh and Arthur Miller - is part of the new Lloyd Loom range at Fired Earth.
A Special Edition pink Monroe chair will be available in Orchard Pink from the Fired Earth paint range. It will be available from September until the end of the year and will cost £475 and of each chair sold, £50 will be donated to Breast Cancer Care.
The frame of the Monroe chair is made from solid, steam-bent beech and is upholstered in the Lloyd Loom weave, which is created using a unique method developed more than 80 years ago. The weave is created from twisted paper and steel wires wrapped in paper. Skilled craftsmen at Lloyd Loom of Spalding in Lincolnshire then upholster the chair by hand.
In addition, from September to December 2007 Fired Earth will also donate 10% of the sales from selected pink paints; Rose Mallow, Orchard Pink, Rose Bay and Tyrian Rose from its Elements of Colour paint range, which has been designed in collaboration with Kevin McCloud.
Leila Roberts, of Fired Earth, said: "Breast cancer is a disease which can have a devastating effect on those diagnosed, their families and friends. We wanted to help raise money to help Breast Cancer Care to continue to provide support and information to anyone affected by the disease."
